World Youth Day Reflection

One Spiritual Adventure

By NAOKI NAKANISHI (from Spanish-Speaking Group)

“We might be targets of terrorists” was my thought. But we decided to take off, taking that risk. At the end of that gloomy, horrifying and unknown trail, we found a world completely different. Feeling such a fascinating and mysterious country that I recognized as Poland right under my feet; seeing heated passion and friendliness of its people; taking part for the first time ever in World Youth Day. These all contributed to that state of awesomeness following new encounters, adventures and a series of miracles that I was able to witness.

I saw how the rays of the sun plunged into the ground on both sides of the long pathway of pilgrims while the wind kept howling. I also discovered a beautiful secret that was hidden in the sadly unforgettable concentration camp of Auschwitz. I saw how two million young hearts blended into one and thus abolish disparate language, culture, skin color and break barriers as all participants proclaimed their faith in Christ –rejoicing, singing and dancing.

When I saw with my very own eyes how God’s Kingdom was unfolding on Earth, right in the Garden of Eden: Poland - I felt on my skin God’s grandeur, God’s unconditional love. Up until that moment I held a negative vision of the world, but now I have recovered hope for the future. My heart started to leap in excitement, joy, and emotion. Pumping through my veins was the most exquisite cocktail of diversity and peace. Next time, Pope will meet his flock in Panama, 2019!
